Most tribute acts pick just one artist and spend the entire night doing their best impression. Boombox Legends does something far more ambitious (and rare). 

We pay tribute to an entire cultural moment: the extraordinary decade when ’80s Funk and New Wave collided, producing some of the most thrilling, danceable, emotionally alive music ever recorded. Prince. David Bowie. Talking Heads. The Police. Rick James. U2. 

These artists seemed wildly different on the surface, but they were all drawing from the same restless, fearless creative well.

Every song in our set was chosen deliberately. Every sequence was constructed to take the audience on an emotional journey, from explosive joy to quiet transcendence, from raw catharsis to communal euphoria. This isn’t just a jukebox of nostalgia. It’s a carefully curated concert experience with a dynamic emotional arc.

But what truly sets Boombox Legends apart is what happens on stage.

Our lead vocalist doesn’t just sing these songs. He inhabits them. Using rare skills for vocal mimicry honed over decades, he delivers eerily accurate impersonations of the original artists. 

One moment he’s Prince. Then David Byrne. Then Rick James. Then Robert Smith. Then Bono. Each iconic performance is a genuine act of artistic channeling that no other tribute act attempts with this level of authenticity and commitment.

But the live Boombox Legends experience doesn’t stop at the music. This is a fully theatrical production.

Band members don’t just play their instruments— select songs feature choreographed movement (many taken from the original artists’ music videos and concerts), bringing the visual energy of the MTV era to life. 

Our musicians don’t just perform at the crowd — they encourage audience interaction and immersion, becoming part of the transcendent communal experience they’re creating. There are costume changes, unexpected mash-ups and interludes, and lots of little “Easter Egg” surprises that any ’80s fan will appreciate.

The veteran musicians behind the band each have decades of performing experience, with stints in some of Atlanta’s most popular party bands (including Band X and Atlanta Vice). Individually, they’ve performed with an eclectic array of artists, including Chuck Leavell, Lou Gramm, New Kingdom, Mickey Thomas, Basehead, Don Felder, Rick Springfield, “Big Mike” Geier (a.k.a. Puddles Pity Party), Eddie Money, Robin Zander, and Jack Blades.

Collectively, they’re devoted to recreating the unique sound of ’80s music, from vintage synths and guitar effects to those early electronic drums and samples.

In short, Boombox Legends is the rare retro tribute experience that’s sophisticated enough for a theater stage, visceral enough to keep a dance floor moving, and ambitious enough to leave an audience feeling emotions they didn’t expect from a night out.
